In 2023 the culture and folk art centre \u201cRitums\u201d together with the council of Riga decided to begin a new tradition \u2013 enlivening the town hall square with dance rhythms. The title \u201cV\u0101lda\u201d which means \u2018white\u2019 in Livonian, hides a reference to the synthesis of the traditional and the modern, as for many years \u201cBalt\u0101 nakts\u201d is considered a bright manifestation of Latvian contemporary culture.
