Ugāle is a village in Northern Kurzeme where I come from. To fight the stereotype that "there's no action in the countryside" in 2011 a local society was grounded by people who cared for the growth and future of the village. The logo was created with the help of local kids. In a workshop the pupils of Ugāle's Music and art school generated ideas and sketches to establish the most popular associations with their village. The most popular association turned out to be the road that runs through the village like a life-vein. Road A10 connecting Riga and Ventspils is not only very characteristic of the village but also a reason for the village's economic survival. At the same time symbolically it reflects movement, development and heading towards the future. As the client wanted the logo include more of the local landmarks, three additional logo versions were made for usage in specific fields – culture & history, showing the local church, infrastructure, showing the school and buildings, and nature, showing spruces, which are also featured in the village crest.
