This album has been designed as a musical and educational guide to Latvian annual celebrations and customs. The traditions are reflected in the included songs, games and dances from Ziemassvētki (the winter solstice), Lielā diena (the spring equinox), Jāņi (the summer solstice) and Rudenāji (the autumn equinox). A crucial part of this album are the song lyrics and descriptions that allow one not just to listen but also actively partake in reviving the traditions of these celebrations. “Devums” (from “dot” – ‘to give’) has been visualized through symbols of folklore – the ring symbolizes the cycle of the year and the grain – the rich heritage which the authors of the album have wanted to give to the listeners. The packaging consists of a zig-zag base with an envelope for the CD and 2 booklets that provide information on the traditions as well as the song lyrics.
