This exhibition was created in cooperation with the Culture and Folk art centre “Ritums”. During the pandemic with no possibilities of offering exhibits indoors, an idea was born to use the windows of the hall instead. And so, throughout the Midsummer season at the very heart of Riga Old Town, the windows of Folk art centre beamed with Midsummer energy. Each window represented a significant aspect of summer solstice – fire, water, nature, magic, celebrating and, of course, feasting. The QR code in each window served as a link to various practical advice – making a bonfire, making the traditional caraway cheese, weaving a wreath. The time of summer solstice marks a point when the nature is at its fullest which can be most vividly seen in the richness of plants. That is why meadow, garden, forest and water plants are the main elements in the illustrations – sweet-flags, ferns, bedstraw, meadowsweets, caraway, hops, willowherbs, oaks and many more.
