"Inheritance" is a conceptual album by the Latvian doom metal band Catalepsia. It tells a story of someone fighting a lost internal battle against an unknown deity that gradually takes over eradicating all humanity. As the story reflects the transmutation process of the body and soul, it seemed fitting to borrow the symbols of alchemy that have always had an occult philosophical meaning. Each of the symbols signifies a song a phase in the process beginning with phosphorous symbolizing the human spirit and ending with antimony – a symbol of the wild, animalistic nature of the man. A to reflect the bleak, smouldering aftermath of the devastating fight. I drew inspiration from the works of the Polish dystopian surrealist Zdzisław Beksinski.
